So I read in the the Chelonian Library 3 South American Tortoises that redfoots have some of the most varied gene expression in nature, as in , individuals even in the same area can look strikingly different from one another. And one interesting note was that animals will often survive to become a healthy adult in the wild with full blown deformities that have been present since hatching!!! Like a stunted leg in one individual described by the authors.
What kinds of mutations/ deformities have you noticed in your babies?
My adult ( Artemis) has a shortened respiratory tract so his/her breathing always whistles and always has. He/she has a deformed asymmetrical male tail opening.
One of my hatchlings has scutes that all have pretty crescent areola, that appear to have started to split only along one side , creating a pretty design.
My other hatchling (2nd) is perfectly normal.
