Mammal feces makes up a large percentage of tortoise diets. Most of it from ungulates, but hyena feces was specifically mentioned too in the study I saw.

Many Herbivore digestive systems are not terribly efficient, some only harvest 20-30% of the energy available in the vegetation they consume. Animal feces has a lot of nutrition left in it in many cases.
