Hello everyone in the tortoise world and what a world it is.
Its always a debatable subject on how much and what to feed torts for protein. I've read much on this topic and listened and taken on board everything i've read and heard. Then made my mind up and gone with it. So every Sunday I give my torts there protein fix. My 8 month juveniles get 1 or 2 pinkie mice to eat each.
My adults have fuzzy mice then I give them some cat biscuits. The day before I always make sure they have mashed banana with calcium D3 powder in it. Here are some photo's. My cherryhead will not eat mice at all, I have to give him a low fat cat food. You can see all of these torts have pyramiding from previous owners, why I don't know, Wallace the one looking for more out of Dawn's hand has until 2 wks ago never had meat , so the owner said.
I'm just going on everything in moderation and good variation for there diets. Hope i'm on the right track.
These 7 torts have come from 5 different background. When I got them I asked as many questions as I could. The one thing they all had in common was lack of humidity. Wallace was living with 3 spur thighed tortoises in a really dry environment. I've also noticed he rushes to eat his food as though others are going to take it off him, Maybe he had to compete to eat with other torts.
Again you can see Mabel eating and straight after she goes and gets into her cat box making sure no other takes her spot. She has come back out for a walk since, And last night she slept in the heated tort table for a change.
