Is anyone willing to help me get some knowledge into my head about tortoises and turtles? I know a lot about them but not enough.

Go to the forum for each species and you will find pinned threads detailing care for that species. They're written by species experts working hard to correct the outdated information widely available on the internet and from pet stores and, sadly, from some breeders and vets too.

Start by reading the beginner mistakes thread

Then find the care sheet for the species you are interested in. Care of each species differs so it is important to rad the one that is relevant to you.
