Hi guys just wondering about the pros and cons of various enclosures - viv or table. Im aiming towards the needs of a 5inch scl russian tort. From what i can see....
Viv -Pros - warmer?/ easier to maintain humidity
Viv-Con - size of commercial viv, lack of ventilation,
Table - Pros better ventilation , harder to main temps, larger sizes available/repurposed
Table Cons - harder to maintain temps

Would be interested to hear what people have to say about use of either/both...

I started with a table after reading that they don't need humidity and that vivs don't have enough ventilation. This is wrong. Spud started to pyramid as there is just no way of keeping it humid unless you cover it. Also, like you said, it costs a fortune to heat.

Vivs are more expensive but are much better for the tort. Especially for hatchlings as they need a lot of humidity and heat. :)
My Viv has 4 air vents at the back. I leave the door open just enough to fit a finger in at the cool side. I have managed to keep it humid enough for my hermanns tortoise. However, depending in the species of tortoise, you will have different humidity needs. For example, Redford need it more humid then hermanns. :)
