Does anyone have an unloved 6.5 or 6.5r solarmeter that they would sell?
If so, please PM me.
New ones are $195 to $300.
I'll likely use it once to set up my Chameleons lights and put it in my garage like you might have.

Good luck. I tried this route first too! Broke down and went Amazon for $197 with a solid return plan for a better peace of mind

I find one of the nice uses for the meter is KNOWING when a bulb needs to be replaced and being surprised to find out many of the better fluorescent don't need to be replaced near as often and thought. So it is not a "use one and forget" but rather a use once and get the setup perfect, then used periodically to check that things are still in order, or if it needs to be adjusted (lowered) or replaced.

It will earn it with use. My used light fixture has a uvb oddly enough though way past useful life. At 22” it’s .04 but at 6” it’s 3.0 . Good to know!

Alright.
I'm talked into it.
I just got all of my T5 stuff.
I'll order a Solarmeter next week. Probably from Josh's frogs
I always like Josh's Frogs. I bought lots of stuff from them over the years, but now I really really like them. They bought a whole bunch of tarantulas from me at the recent reptile show, and even helped me sell more of them to their friends. They we super nice, helpful people, and even offered us some free surplus stuff at the end of the show. They sure earned my appreciation.

I wondered about your tarantula situation.
That worked out well.
I had one small glitch with a MISTKING ULTIMATE that I received from them with missing pieces. But they replaced them without insinuating that I was trying to rip them off.
That made me a customer.

I've got a 60watt incandescent spot lamp for heat. (Replacing the 80watt MV UVA,UVB and heat lamp)
T5 5.0 fixtures replacing all of the T8 stuff. And plant lights for the Sheflerra plants.
The perches are all about 10, 12" away from the T5s until I get my meter.
The smaller aviary still has a T8, but I've stepped it up to a 10.0.
Hopefully it's all ok.
I learned a lot about lighting.

I installed my 48” fixture with a T5 10.0 bulb. I put in with a adjustable wire system and have at 3.0 at the substrate. Glad the way the new enclosure is coming together

I just ordered the 6.5r from JOSH'S FROGS.
I'll have it some time early next week.
Luckily it's so nice out that my chams are living outdoors 24/7 for the last several days. Daytime is around 82 and night time is around 70. Unusually humid for Winter.

What an option this time of year! In Richmond on our warmest day no tortoise went outside

It looks like this is the only warm spot in the US
There's a front coming down next Tuesday that's going to cool things down for a day or two.
Another warm winter that's too warm to kill off any of our exotic, evasive critters.

The Solarmeter is why I installed my T8 fixture with adjustable wire. Got that bad boy dialed in now! Thanks Tom!

The one T8 I still use is a 10.0 and at the distance it sits, is still useful for Chameleons in shorter cages with high branches.
The other T8 5.0s I'll be donating to members for tortoises only.
Under 6" applications.
I have quite a few.
