Hello, i've had my male greek tortoise Freddy for about 5 years now and i still have no idea what subspecies he is. I house him outdoors year-round in Phoenix, AZ. I'm thinking about getting a female for him, as he is about 6 years old, but I need to know which subspecies to get. I've put some picture bellow to see if any of you can identify, thanks.IMG_1527.JPG IMG_1528.JPG IMG_1530.JPG IMG_1534.JPG

Does he actually have spurs on his thighs ?
I can't see them in this pic ? Though that may be my eyesight, or the angle of the picture .

If you blowup the pic there appears to be a light colored spur on both sides
Indeed, thank you, i think i see them.
So I'm going for Testudo graeca marokkensis, based on the shell pattern, colouration, shape and the flaring on the skirt.
But i am far from certain.
It's very difficult. :)

You have a Testudo graeca terrestris for sure. Wonderful, classic animal. This is the subspecies often referred to as "Golden Greek" which is highly inaccurate since an array of color combinations is found within the overall group.
