I have a new species, platyona! I can't wait to see them grow!

Check them out! Getting them has been like my birthday times a thousand. What an amazing experience. I am so happy to be a part of the conservation effort.

I know I am taking a waaay early shot in the dark here, but does anyone else see the larger two anal scutes as early stages being male/ and female? They look significantly different to me. I hope so U was hoping to get a breeding pair out of this.

They are all doing well. They eat well. They seem to have grown some. The darkest one is getting a little more pyramiding than I would like, but the other two do not appear to have any. I want to install tube lights because when I try to close off the enclosure the MVB gets too hot. As a short term solution I could build a $20 thermostat, I think Yvonne has a thread about it.

MVBs will cause pyramiding even in a closed chamber. They desiccate the carapace. They also run too hot for a closed chamber. They pyramiding will worsen over time if you don't change this.

How are you housing these? Tom's platy's are bowling ball smooth. Any reason why you are using a MVB?

They are in an open top enclosure. That's the only reason I am using MVB. I plan to switch to the arcadia style bulbs once I have the closed chambers built but for now I am using MVB because they need heat and UVB. I know it is not ideal.

These pics were taken yesterday.

For some reason I thought an arcadia bulb with housing was around $300. After some research I can see I was waaay off. $60 for each enclosure is much more affordable...

From what I have read T5 are better than T8? Do I want the 6% or 12%?

lightyourreptile.com pangeareptile.com or do any of you know of a cheaper reliable source?

Is the one in the link above okay? I have a solarmeter 6.5 so I can test it and make sure the UVB is proper, but what should I keep it at? 1-2.6?
