How long have you had him? Depending on how long it's been, FWC may not want it released due to potential disease concerns.

If you found him a day or so ago, you should be fine releasing him where you found him, unless that isn't a safe spot for some reason. If he was in someone else's custody for a while before you got him, it would probably be better to contact FWC.
