Hey Everyone out there,

saw this on the famous “exotic vet” show from Florida. (Dr.K?)
It’s called “Hydration Hay”
Says it’s alfalfa and grass blocked together?
What is this all about?
Is it any good?
Can I give this to an adult Sulcata tortoise?

I kind of doubt hay can hydrate any animal since hay is basically dried grass and i think the ideal hay for a sulcata is timothy hay but idk lets just wait for the experts here

IT has good ingredients-Timothy Grass, Orchard Grass, and Alfalfa......then odd Vegetable Oil and Ash? Not sure what the experts would say, but I would just avoid since I can get all kinds of real bundles of hays within a 2 hours drive max

I've never seen this and have no experience with it. Not sure what the concept is, or what the need for it would be.

I'm able to meet all of my tortoises needs without this product, so I think I'd skip it.

I would say no. Vegetable oil is a dangerous ingredient. Sounds innocent but is highly concentrated and heated and from god knows what source of “vegetables”.

Thanks sooooo much for all of your replies!
I am great full for the feed back and will listen to all of you!
It was just out of my own curiosity after seeing a man say he gave it to his adult Sulcata on a tv show.
I know better...that’s why I ask THE EXPERTS. ?
Thanks again!!! ❤️❤️❤️

When horses are eating dry hay all the time, somewhat like a cat with dry kibble, they may nor drink enough water. Hydration hay is just hay, that you soak so when the horse eats it, they get more water in their system. It's a somewhat expensive way to buy compressed hay. Some have 'hydration' minerals in them. I looked at these at a local tack shop and asked a horse person what's is all about. There may be a good convenience for some people with a small heard of tortoises to use the blocks, soak and feed, much like I do with hay cubes. I don't keep any tortoise at its current size that these would work well for. If you had 20 adult sulcata then just buy a whole bale.

I used to feed my draft horses and mules Purina Strategy feed soaked in vegetable oil , it worked great for equines , they were in top condition. I don’t know what effect the vegetable oil would have on torts though.
