Hey there,

I have 2 young Redfoot tortoises and they have grown out of their old humid hides. I've cut a doorway into a tupperware container and lined it with duct tape to keep any sharp edges away. Will this be okay or do I need to find other protection to put over the cut out edge?

Thanks!

You don't need anything to cover the rough edges of the cut Tupperware container. Those plastic edges can't harm your tortoise. I've been using Tupperware with holes cut in it for all sorts of reptiles for decades and I've never once lined the hole after cutting.

I'd be more worried abut impaction from the tortoises eating the duct tape when it begins to peel off in your damp humid environment.

As tom said it will be fine if you leave it. Wouldn't advise using duct tape.

A very warm welcome to the forum.

Please post pics of your torts and read the "Beginners Mistakes" Thread as well as the care sheet on RF torts.

If you are concerned you can always run a piece of sandpaper over the edges to dull any sharp edges ! ;)
