Over the past weeks I have been on here trying to get as much advice as possible to try and help our Golden Greek pull through what seems to be Hatchling Failure Syndrome. As a Mom, I am at the point where I question whether it is harder for my 9-year old son to be watching his tortoise "suffer" and get worse daily. Yet, Rocky keeps holding on. But is it to the point when I should consider humane euthanasia?
The difficult part is that he does not show ALL signs. His eyes are not swollen and he has not completely stopped eating. Although I do not think he's eating much at all. His shell is getting so squishy that I feel uncomfortable even picking him up. Yet he seems to be getting fat. Almost as if his plastron is going to burst open :-(
His plastron looks even darker and almost "wet" underneath in spots. Is this bleeding?
We have one exotic vet in this area and although she is very well respected, I believe she gave me incorrect information at his first visit. She did not stress the importance of humidity as all of you on here have. So I think Rocky lived in less than perfect conditions for a couple of weeks and that did not help a possible bad situation that he came from at Backwater Reptiles :'(
Is there any way to end Rocky's suffering in a humane way at home? Would appreciate your candid thoughts and opinions.
