Hello everyone! In this thread I will be showing you how I feed my tortoises and what days I feed what to them. Now this thread is gonna be super long and picture heavy on weeds and MAZURI!!!
Ok first of I'll name some of the weeds and grass I used today on feeding the little hatchlings.
#1 Prickly Lettuce
#2 Sow Thistle
Here is a baggy full of both of them
#3 I like to call these Lung plants but they are actually called Dichondra
#4 Burr Clover
#4 Mexican Evening Primrose
#5 Now this is a part of the corn family, I don't know the name but I do know it's safe to feed to the tortoises
#6 Grass!!!! This is very important for your Sulcata, Leopard, and any other tortoise that has to have grass in its diet!!! Now I have two types of grass I use but I really forgot the name of them
IMPORTANT: make sure the weeds, plants, and flowers are edible and not poisonous for your tortoise!! Failure to do so can lead to death or a very serious injury!
Ok so now to my favorite part pellets!!!! Now there are 3 types of pellets I own and use...
#1 Made by Zoomed, Grassland Tortoise Diet is very good and highly recommend for feeding your tortoise the nutrients that the weeds and plants can't provide. [its also high in fiber which is really good for your tortoise.
#2 Also made from Zoomed is the Forest Diet for your Red Foots or other tropical fruit eating specie!
#3 Made by Mazuri and by far most people's favorite Mazuri Tortoise Diet!!! They also make a healthier Tortoise Diet called Mazuri Tortoise Diet LS
Now Calcium plays a huge row in the tortoises diet and they need it!!
I sprinkle calcium in their Mazuri or other pellet once a week.
Another option is to put a cuttle bone in your tortoises enclosure.
So this is how I prepare their food:
Step 1. Collect all the weeds and grass your gonna feed my hatchlings.
Step 2. I put all the weeds and plants in a bucket
Step 3. Mix it!!!!
Step 4. Get your pellets ready to mix in your weeds and plants.
Make sure they are nice and soft for your baby torts!!
Next I just smash them up.
Step 5. Place it on the weeds and plants and then mix it up.
After that's all done I feed it to my tortoises and watch them enjoy it!!!
