Hello everyone! In this thread I will be showing you how I feed my tortoises and what days I feed what to them. Now this thread is gonna be super long and picture heavy on weeds and MAZURI!!!
Ok first of I'll name some of the weeds and grass I used today on feeding the little hatchlings.
#1 Prickly Lettuce ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430266891.202763.jpg
#2 Sow Thistle ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430266987.415304.jpg
Here is a baggy full of both of themImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267042.776050.jpg
#3 I like to call these Lung plants but they are actually called Dichondra ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267106.960138.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267234.353823.jpg
#4 Burr Clover ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267174.010324.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267218.750400.jpg
#4 Mexican Evening Primrose ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267291.836780.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267333.219818.jpg
#5 Now this is a part of the corn family, I don't know the name but I do know it's safe to feed to the tortoises ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267394.266963.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267407.440318.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267420.648885.jpg
#6 Grass!!!! This is very important for your Sulcata, Leopard, and any other tortoise that has to have grass in its diet!!! Now I have two types of grass I use but I really forgot the name of them ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267535.019759.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267547.662045.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267583.059501.jpg
IMPORTANT: make sure the weeds, plants, and flowers are edible and not poisonous for your tortoise!! Failure to do so can lead to death or a very serious injury!
Ok so now to my favorite part pellets!!!! Now there are 3 types of pellets I own and use...
#1 Made by Zoomed, Grassland Tortoise Diet is very good and highly recommend for feeding your tortoise the nutrients that the weeds and plants can't provide. [its also high in fiber which is really good for your tortoise. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430267867.583536.jpg
#2 Also made from Zoomed is the Forest Diet for your Red Foots or other tropical fruit eating specie!ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268150.526858.jpg
#3 Made by Mazuri and by far most people's favorite Mazuri Tortoise Diet!!! ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268199.383311.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268238.918159.jpg They also make a healthier Tortoise Diet called Mazuri Tortoise Diet LS ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268312.255699.jpg
Now Calcium plays a huge row in the tortoises diet and they need it!! ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268368.882707.jpg
I sprinkle calcium in their Mazuri or other pellet once a week.
Another option is to put a cuttle bone in your tortoises enclosure.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268456.192394.jpg
So this is how I prepare their food:
Step 1. Collect all the weeds and grass your gonna feed my hatchlings.
Step 2. I put all the weeds and plants in a bucket ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268599.631308.jpg
Step 3. Mix it!!!! ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268629.895013.jpg
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268642.402411.jpg
Step 4. Get your pellets ready to mix in your weeds and plants. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268717.487951.jpg
Make sure they are nice and soft for your baby torts!!
Next I just smash them up. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268778.853039.jpg
Step 5. Place it on the weeds and plants and then mix it up.ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268818.838665.jpg
ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1430268876.984750.jpg
After that's all done I feed it to my tortoises and watch them enjoy it!!!

Now here is the days I feed them pellets: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Wednesday they are given their Calcium.
Sunday is nothing but weeds!!!
All week expect Sunday they are fed weeds and grass!!
Grass is 60% of their diet and weeds are pretty much the rest!

Make sure to rinse off all weeds? Grass and plants you pick from outside and make sure none of them have been sprayed with pesticides!!

That's pretty much how I fed all my babies too. ;)

Nice work. With the Mazuri I also mix in some Herbal Hay from tortoise supply and for the Redfoots add a couple Omega 1 algae wafers. The main ingrediants are kelp, spirulina and salmon. So trace minerals and protein. No idea if it's needed or not.

Anyway, great info. Thanks for putting it together.
