Home made Calcium block

I just saw a web site that showed me how to make home made Calcium blocks. I ordered from amazon 1 pound of Food Grade Calcium Carbonate CaCO3. Has anyone tried this before and how did it work. I have a 10 month old Sulcata that I only want the best for. It looks really easy to make!! Is this the same as a cuttle bone?

I made them and my tort eats them up! I did get a silcone tray too, much easier to pop them out when they are done.
