Not ignoring your question, just don't have an answer. They are one of the cheaper tortoises currently on the market however.

What species of forest hingeback are you looking for? Homes, eroded, or bells?

Are these recently wild caught or long term or even a slim chance, a captive bred? Makes a difference on the price. Wild caught I would say $40.

Hate to say it, but I am guessing you will be happier with your new choice.

Wow, I spent like $200 on my Speke's hingeback. That was before I learned I could adopt. Looks like I got ripped off! :( She's pretty high-manintenance (and yes, a lot of work), but she was worth it, of course. We are very happy with her!

I wouldn't say you got ripped off. Speks are pricier then the Homes are. You also ordinarily rarely find Hingebacks on the rescues. In the end, being happy with the tort is what it's all about.
