Hi! My name is Megan, I'm 14, I live in the area around Washington D.C. I joined this site becaus I think tortoises are really cute! I have done alot of research about caring for them, and I want to get a Russian Tortoise. But my mother says they live too long. So I am looking to possibly adopt a Russian Tortoise 30 years old and up.

Hi Megan, and welcome to the Forum!!

So, you're 14 and will probably be out on your own after high school. Does your mother think you'll move away, leaving your tortoise at home in her care? Even a 30 year old steppe tortoise will live for quite a few years after 30...more like 50 or even 80 more years. No matter what kind of tortoise you get, its going to live much longer than you will be living at home.

I'd be willing to bet that a tortoise will work itself into your mom's good graces. How could it not? They're just so darned loveable!

Hi Megan,

You are definitely in the right place. Regardless of when you are able to get a tortoise stay connected to the forum, do your research.
At some point you will have a tortoise!
I understand your moms concerns and your desires to have a tortoise.
Tortoises are NOT going anywhere.
I,press your mom with good research and planning.
Good luck! 🐢
