Hello I rehomed a 16 year old Hermanns tortoise 2 months ago and he settled in well at first and I am continuing to feed him the foods his previous owner said he liked but has since stopped eating (maybe a few bites of cucumber)
I took him to the vets who said he was hydrated enough (I bath him every day) and I’ve upped his UV time due to UK rainy summer weather at the moment but even the “treat” foods the vet suggested to get his appetite back (small bit of banana and other fruit ) hasn’t worked. I need to take a poo sample back to vets but he’s not pooed for awhile
Any helpful suggestions would be amazing please ? He’s definitely lost weight and I’m very worried

Hi - he has a UV basking lamp on during the day which he can come and go to, he’s got an outside area which has basking spots (although currently not great with this current UK rainy summer!) plus areas to hide and burrow. At night he goes into a hutch where he can burrow down in to substrate (but recently he’s only slept on top of the substrate and stopped burying down at night) and where there is a heater on a thermostat to ensure it’s not below 10c
Still not eating !

Sounds like your temps are too low. What are your four temps, basking, warm side, cool side, and night?

40c under his UV lamp, 32c, 22c & his nightbox is set to heat up if below 12c
However he is free roam within all of these and also to go outside into our garden which current UK temp is averaging 14c & rainy !

It sounds like the animal has either come down with something or is developing something. Has he had any contact with other tortoises?
Can you post some photos showing his face particularly?

My first thought when I looked at him was that he looks really dry. Do you soak him at all? If not, I would start soaking him in warm water daily for a couple of weeks and then maybe reduce it to 2/3 times per week. 40c is a little too hot, you should aim for 35c under the basking lamp.
What was his previous owners feeding?
Is he active walking around etc or does he just sleep?

Edit- sorry just seen you bath him daily.

Have you had a worm count done?
