Thought some might find the following photos interesting. They depict some of the differences in overall look between some of the localities of Western Hermann's tortoise strains or locales bred here. Of course this is easier and clearer in person but this give a little bit of an idea.

Further information and details along with close ups can be found on my site hermannihaven.com

The following photos are of selected trios (1 male 2 females) from 5 of the several localities kept and bred here. They were selected for these photos because they represent the strain and colony they belong to beautifully.

Wow, all very beautiful. I must say though, I think I like the coloring of the first ones the best. They all have great looking faces though. What is it that seperate them from each location?

Beautiful tortoises, Chris. I don't think I've fully appreciated the hermanni before seeing these pictures.

Why do these Hermann torts look more stunning than any other Hermann I've seen? In life and in photos....

I don't spot the differences but I didn't expect to.

I just can't get over their stunning colors/patterns!

You are used to seeing Easterns. These are all Westerns. Different subspecies. Hope to get some someday.

Chris, Thanks for posting. All gorgeous. I can't pic a favorite.

Thanks everyone very much.

I should point out one important typo though, in the last set of of 3 photos the locale should read "Mallorca, SPAIN (Balearics)" not Italy. Sorry for that.

She's a beauty!

I must say, I'm quite partial to the Hermann's myself. :<3: :)

I have noticed in addition to the bright color the western head is a little blocker, my Russians head is really blocky love the contrasts.
