Hi!

I'm the proud owner of a Sulcata. Right now, Rochester lives inside with us (he's a little guy still), and goes outside daily to explore and get some sun. I'd like to start planning his grown-up tortie home, and have some questions. My house is built on *old* farm land and has a LARGE variety of weeds. I've been reading through the forum and different sites to try and figure out what weeds are safe for Rochester. There are a few that I know, like dandelions and chickweed. However, there are a bunch that I don't know the names for and don't want him to eat if they are bad for him.

I especially would like to know what to possibly transplant into him pen and outdoor tortie run. Or to transplant OUT of his areas. I would really appreciate some help identifying the plants and was hoping that some of you might recognize the plants if I put pictures up. And of course, I have to put share a picture of Little Rochester. He's a cutie!

Sorry we have alot of weeds.

I don't know them all, but what I do know:

3. Oxalis - not toxic, but high in oxalates and shouldn't be fed very often
4. Either Ice plant - edible, or what I thought was Ranunculus however when I look at pictures of ranunculus, its not the plant I'm thinking of
5. edible
6. a type of grass - edible

17. edible

20. oxalis (see #3)
21. Creeping Charlie - toxic

23. edible
24. vetch - edible
25. edible

Hello and Welcome:) I am bad at weed and flower id-ing. However, if someone can't tell you what they are, you can try looking on the tortoisetable.org. Also, check out the threads below in my post. They are Toms and they are great for raising a smooth sulcata. Your baby is very cute. However I see some very slight pyramiding. Get the humidity up in his enclosure and you can stop that and get all the new growth growing smooth. Good luck with the weeds ID and building his big boy enclosure.

Thank you so much for the help, everyone! I appreciate it. I'm pretty sure I know what some of those plants are, but not 100% positive. I think I might send some pictures to my sister and see if she or her friends can ID them for sure. She's a wildlife biologist, so maybe she can help. *crossing fingers*

Wellington, we did notice the pyramiding when we bought Rochester and have made sure that he has a good bit of humidity. My husband has been working to try and figure out the best way to create him a good hidey hole and came up with a great way to make sure he has a good humid place to hang out. An upside down tuperware dish buried in the pen, with a hole cut into the side big enough for him to use. He filled it with moistened coconut fiber and it has a heat lamp above it. Then he mounded dirt over the make-shift cave. We were also careful to make sure there was no way he could tip himself over. I'm a bit paranoid about that.

Thank you all for the help!!! If I figure out the names for the rest of the plants, I will post them in here. That way if someone else is looking, this list of pictures might help them too.
