Hi, so I am new to this site. A little background so I got a tortoise off craigslist, the women just told me he likes peaches. So no help there haha but I just want to know what species he/she is to better care for it better.

You have an male ornate box turtle, not a tortoise. Check out the box turtle section on the site for care for this little guy

Hi Chandler, and welcome to the Forum!

Like was said above, your new turtle is a Terrapene ornata ornata, or ornate box turtle, and it is a male.

He should definitely not have those cracks/fissures between his scutes! It may be dehydration, but I recommend getting him to a vet ASAP! That's not at all normal.

That little guy needs some serious soaking and some upkeep. Good luck with him.
