Hello all! This is our Herman's Tortoise, Edmund. He is just a little guy, and we have had him since the end of August. Tell us what you think! New to the tortoise world, so any advice or camaraderie is greatly appreciated.18253929_10156502015504815_989188499_n.jpg 18254025_10156502015349815_1418476420_n.jpg 18254140_10156502015414815_462938207_n.jpg 18280330_10156502015249815_1644250686_n.jpg 18280761_10156502015459815_794520603_n.jpg 18254025_10156502015349815_1418476420_n.jpg

Very cute! now that you're at the right place to find the right care you can stop the pyramiding in its tracks. Pyramiding is results of being to dry. Just misting him down a couple times a day isn't enough. he would need an enclosed chamber until he gets older. Something that would hold humidity and Heat in to the correct ratings. Some people use plastic tubs with their lids and some people use tanks with plexiglass over the top... Check out our enclosure section for ideas. For babies that are still relying on humidity and heat to grow closed Chambers are the best. Later when they're more adult size you can have open topped enclosure or outside enclosures. Pyramiding means the chutes on their backs start growing vertically instead of horizontally causing a pyramid look to each one. If left unchecked you will have an extremely bumpy tortoise. I've seen some rescues here on the Forum that resemble over-inflated waffles. Very sad.

Hey guys!

Thanks for your replies.

Sorry for the delay, we've been dealing with finals and moving!

Edmund's humidity is generally kept around 70%. Right now it is at 86%.

Recently we've added smagnum moss around his hides, food bowl, and edges of his tank.

Right now we have him in a Nat Geo tank that opens in the front. Since its glass we have covered up all of the sides so that he doesn't get stressed out. I think for now we are going to add plexi glass to the side area with vents and to as much of the the top that we can.

Once we move we are going to make a tortoise table inside and out. Thanks to you guys we will keep in mind putting plexiglass glass over the screen until he is older!

Any other advice or info is definitely welcomed.

Thanks again!
