I live in NYC, and have a 3 month old red foot tortoise. Now that it is getting warmer, do I need to keep my tortoises heat lamp on? With the heat lamp it is about 85-90 during the winter/spring but with the summer heat, it will be even warmer.

Second the thermostat. Save energy when possible. :)

Getting a thermostat on the heating and a timer on the lighting made keeping my redfoot's enclosure within optimal parameters so much easier... it also takes away a lot of worry about checking and remembering.

I have all my heating and lighting on thermostats, it’s peace of mind more than anything. I have a thermostat that cost £70 and another that cost £25 and to be honest the cheaper one works just as well.
