hi,
i have two cute star tortoises . The temperature at night drops a lot till 18 c, i can't keep the heat lamp on at night bcoz it will disturb the sleeping patterns of the tortoises so what should i do ?
Also, can hiding space 3 inch below the surface help ?

Use a ceramic heating element on a thermostat. All heat, no light.

also, you can likely find a black heat light bulb or a infrared one...either will work too....however, the infrared one does give off red light....the black heat light is better for night time than the infrared....:D

Well, what type of environment are you surrounded by? I would suggest that if you have smooth rocks anywhere that you can pick them up and place them in the sun all day so they get heated up to the center...then take those rocks and place them in the enclosure kind of in a pile, or two piles...this will aid in offering a place your tort can gravitate towards for additional heat if he feels the need....?
