Growth on foot.

Hmm usually dont get growths on the foot. It doesn't need to be amputated. It does need to be removed and at least biopsied to see what exactly it is. More than likely the recovery will be a little tough on the guy. I'd almost be willing to bet though it's probably just an infect area where a hematoma popped up and only needs to be drained. For sure though doesn't have to be amputated.
