Finally i decided to acquire my hate and love tortoise, Aldabra Giant Tortoise.
Arrived at wednesday, 03 May 2017, 2 p.m., so cute, like a mini toy. He gave me exact same feeling when i saw Toro, my sulcata tortoise for the first time.
Then he was staying at soaking tub (dry) that i prepared from home, i prepared mix of roselle leaves, hibiscuss leaves, grasses, mulberry leaves, etc for him inside. He needed to stay there until 6 p.m. because i am at work. He was eating inside the tub, and that was quite a lot.
I arrived at home. Gosh he was eating even when i was carrying his tub moving everywhere (yes he was skittish if he saw me directly, the tub had opaque lid on it.) Then I gave another roselle leaves for him (because he emptied the tub!! well.. almost), and left him for 10 minutes, he was so active, so curious, and eat way way more than Toro when he first time arrived. After that, a warm soak for 30 minutes.
I switched on his basking bulb that night so that he can wondered around his new home. He was going lap around ten times, and i figured out his water bowl is too deep. I changed it and he was still doing lap, even went pass my busy hand. Not that skittish after all (he was indeed skittish when he was doing nothing). In the middle of changing bowl, i saw him decided to enter his hide. His behavior made me decided to switch off his light. 5 minutes went away, he was so black and his enclosoure is quiet dark, i cant see whether he was still inside his hide. After 30minutes, the curiousity made me lit up a torch towards his hide. Yes he was still there and sleeping. What a smart and cutie one. And that was how our first day end. Sounds so smooth!
I cant really made up my mind what should be his name. Finally I decided to give him a name that will remind me what was the impression he gave me upon arrival. TURBO is perfect. I didn't expect him to be so active. From what i was told, i had the most active tortoise in the world, a sulcata, so how in the world this one could be like a wind up toy? Well if you want me describe my baby aldabra, he will be a sulcata tortoise equip with turbo. He put a shame to Toro. Yes, he is!
So here is Turbo, an Aldabra Giant Tortoise, hatched around February 2017.
First day adopted: Wed, 03 May 2017 - 180gr (plastron measured 9cm).
I will update his growth here, once a week.
Feel free if you want to see the growth of my a year older sulcata, Toro, the link is here.
Last.. pictures to end this first post!!
ps. He has small little brown patches on his several scute. I don't know what it is, it could be shell rot, it could be another. The seller told me it was sort of crust and will came off by itself (hmm.. really??). Well.. i will keep a close eye on it. (Please do give comment below if you have any idea or experience about this.)
When he arrived:
After 30min of soaking
His enclosure
His face, well as you can see, typical old method, dry started tortoise
