Our little Greek likes to fall asleep under his basking light...95*F.
But then that means he is at the opposite side of his enclosure for the heat light for the rest of the night (ambient room air temp 68*.)

Should I move him to under the heat (red) light after he falls asleep?

He wakes up before his basking light goes on in the morning (by about 15 minutes) and walks over to the red heat light until his basking light comes on.

Our set up is:
36 inch x 20 inch rubbermaid opaque clear container with...
left side heat light 74*F, middle UVA/UVB light no heat 85*F, right side has the UVA/UVB basking light 95*F....

shallow water and his food are smack in the middle. Hides on cool and warm end.

Still on paper towel substrate.

Thanks!

What are your night time temps in that setup? Is it staying with the 68 ambient? If it is I wouldnt worry too much about it.

The warm side is 74*F but the end he is on is at 68*F.

Isn't that a bit cold for the Greeks?

68F is just fine for a night time temperature for your Greek. I'd go without the red light at night.

I remeasured the interior dimensions...20"deepx32'long...the hides are out because he pooed on one so I am soaking them...

I took the pine table in our son's room and cut a strip of 2x2" wood to length and added plant hanger chain to hand the lights from...

Hi Cam,

I have 2 questions:
1) what is the 3rd light? If I'm right, you have a ceramic heating light, a compact UVB, and a 3rd lamp. What is it?
2) Can you manage a temperature gradient in there?

(very handsome fella you have in there, by the way)

Hi Cam,

Just a suggestion but I would go with one of the lower sided sweater type boxes for better airflow, and also one a bit longer so that you can get the temp gradient that TestudoGreek mentioned above. There is no way to get a good gradient for a warm and and a cool end with that tub.

This is a setup I used for a hatchling Leopard recently and I was able to have a warm basking side at 95-105 and a cool end that averaged around 76 with it.

This is in a 32qt sweater box.

The one on the far left looks like a red bulb.

The far left bulb is a 50 watt red heat bulb
The middle is a Repti Glo 10.0 UVA/UVB compact 12 inches off the floor
The far right is a 75 watt All Living Things Basking Bulb incandescent

The first "house" we had set up was like the one you showed...but he climbed out the 12" wall and would have landed on his back if we would not have been there. That's why I got this on and cut out the one side so it is 14" off the ground.

We also have a bath towel under the box to provide a warmer floor insulationa and allow for air circulation...it is in the middle leaving about 1/4 of the box on each end "off the ground".

The temps per our temp gun are 79* at the left side red bulb end
90*F in the middle and 92.5* basking end...

Do you think if I cut all the way around it would be better?

I want to build him a "box" custom size in a few weeks.

Cam,
My greeks are still outside and the temps are getting into the 50s here so they will come in this weekend. Remember where they come from. It does get cold. 68 won't allow him to go into hibernation so he should be fine. Where he falls asleep I would leave him. If he gets too cold he will move.

Thank you.

You're right, it's like when I tuck in my kids and they promptly kick off the covers because they are too hot:cool:

i just didn't want to mess him up...our beardie goes into brumation every year and it's so unnerving...
