Hey all, i accidentally purchased the wrong Matzuri Tortoise diet. (50 lbs!) I meant to purchase the Tortoise LS but I bought the Tortoise LS Diet Small. They are both for herbivorous reptiles, but the LS small has a much higher protein content. i didn't realize till i had torn the bag open and saw the tiny pellets. Wondering if it would be safe to mix in a bit of this slowly over time. It's good stuff I imagine, just higher in protein that i've ever given. I tried to sell it but shipping was more than the cost of food itself. No one local has responded to my craigslist ad. I could donate it to the local reptile store.

LS Diet Small
Protein - 20%
Fiber - 15%

LS Diet
Protein - 12%
Fiber - 22$

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ben

I didn't know that the LS variety had two sizes.
I'm sure you can get rid of it here. Post another post with your location, etc.(for sale)
Maybe a member near you would take it off of your hands.

I knew LS came in two different sizes, but I thought it was a matter of just pellet size. I never realized it was completely two different products.

I believe they're the same product, one pellet is just much smaller than the other.

Yes, and I just recently bought a small bag of each. I will try putting out some of the tiny pellets out dry without previously soaking them and will see if my 2 Juvies go for them. They did eat them soaked and mixed into their fresh food. But again, mine are RF's, I'm sorry, not sure about herbivorous species. I think that the bag label should clearly state which animals this diet has been designed for and if it says "herbivorous" then you should be more than ok mixing it in with fresh greens. I've been using commercial foods as supplement to nicely "round up" their daily intake and my torts have been growing very robust, are full of energy and seem very strong and healthy. Those animal nutritionists who sign their names under those commercial pet foods have their professional licenses at stake so I tend to give some credence to their statements.

They are not the same product:

Tortoise Diet (original large pellet) Formula Code – 5M21
Crude protein not less than .................15.0%
Crude fat not less than ..........................3.0%
Crude fiber not more than ...................18.0%
Moisture not more than .......................12.5%
Ash not more than.................................8.0%

Tortoise LS Diet (new small pellet) Formula Code: 5E5L
Crude protein not less than ...................12.0%
Crude fat not less than ............................4.0%
Crude fiber not more than .....................22.0%
Moisture not more than .........................12.0%
Ash not more than ...................................9.0%
Vitamin E not less than.....................250 IU/kg

Tortoise LS Diet-Small (tiny pellet) Formula Code: 5E5M
Crude protein not less than................................ 20.0%
Crude fat not less than ........................................ 4.0%
Crude fiber not more than.................................. 15.0%
Moisture not more than...................................... 12.0%
Ash not more than............................................. 11.0%
Calcium not less than.........................................1.75%
Calcium not more than.......................................2.25%
Phosphorus not less than ....................................1.0%
Sodium not more than........................................0.60%

I am not sure why the two LS products are different. the names certainly suggest they are the same, but they are not. They also seem to choose to list a different number of ingredient on each product - inconsistent and strange.
