Found tort need help with id

If he’s not back in his home I will be taking him from my sister and mother.. they live in Ventura county, ca and don’t know how to care for him.. what species is he and what dose his care and diet look like.

Hmm I'm not sure. It definitely is an escaped pet, I don't think any wild box turtles live in Cali.

He absolutely an Eastern box turtle..he could be a recently escaped pet, or a long term escaped pet...please don't take him any where until you have tried to find an owner...for now give him a warmish soak, then put him in a tote with a light on it and think about how you will advertise him...notices on poles bulletin boards...etc...
