Anyone know why our tortoise uses the food dish as a litter box? Can they be trained to go in one spot all the time?

I have always thought they do that to keep other tortoises from eating their food.

Russian tortoises are a small species and because of this and a minimum size for sale requirement, many wild caught Russians sold in pet stores are actually several years older than stated by the shop. A small, stubby tail like this is female, male ones are longer and tucked to the side.
