Finally got to weigh my little guy

So I bought him July 3rd and just got a scale today. Here is his first weigh in

Check it about every 3 weeks to a month. (Because weight fluctuates daily.)
Look for slow and steady gains.

I say “certainly”. Using a scale for regular weight checking is so much better than guessing.

I wouldn't say it's essential, but it can be a very helpful tool. And for $15-20, it's not breaking the bank. It can help judge if your tortoise is growing at a healthy / steady rate. For example, a scale might tell you if an increase or decrease of food is needed. Additionally, if your ever find your tortoise ill or about to hibernate, then a scale becomes very valuable. It's also fun and interesting in a way!

That is actually a good idea to keep track of. I never thought of it when gathering supplies. I didn't really think it was possible to overfeed a tortoise?

I find them very inexpensive at Walmart in the area of cookware/pots and pans.
(The small, digital ones for measuring food.)
