I finally got my hermann's tortoise! I named her Artemis, I don't know for sure her gender but she has a missing scute so I am assuming female until I am proven otherwise later on. She is 2.5 inches long.
I also have some concerns... The topsoil is extremely moist. The humidity is currently 75%. The cool end is 65 last time I checked, it's probably 70 now. Will she get sick from this?
Another concern I have is she yawned once. She wasn't gasping at all, just slightly opened her mouth and yawned. That's normal right? She sneezed too. She was is a very dry environment with dry substate before today, could that be the cause? Is there anything to worry about?
I keep worrying about her flipping in the water dish but she goes in and out of it like a pro, but I'm still nervous. I put a rock in there incase she ever flips.
Last thing, is it too bright in her enclosure? She has a humid hide and log hide. Should I get an area that is in the open that is darker?
So those are all of my concerns (I think). Anyway, I really like her shell. As I said, she has a missing scute, which I think is really unique.
Here are the enclosure pictures;

What an interesting-looking shell. Artemis is indeed a unique and special tortoise!

Is 106 degrees too hot for a basking area? The temp gun says it's 106. The cool end is 70. She is sitting next to her basking rock. It's okay as long as she can cool down, right?

Now the basking spot is around 110... I shut off the lamp and let it cool down. But it gets too cold without it. I don't have a lamp stand. I'm guessing the only thing I can do is get a lower wattage basking bulb?

Yes keep closer to 100 degrees. Can you move the bulb/fixture higher? What a cutie...Christmas present?:)

I replaced the mini dome with the normal style dome. Hopefully that will work. I can't raise it, so if this doesn't work then I need to order a new bulb. And yeah, she's my present :)
