Hey guys,
I know I have posted about this before but I’m wondering if this is healthy or if my tort my have pituitary glad issues or something. She has been gaining about 30 grams a month since I got her and she was 31 when I got her. Now that she’s past 100g I feel like it’s picking up. Does anyone else have a leopard tort that grows at this kind of rate? If so did it slow down later on?IMG_7450.jpgIMG_7449.jpg

The first picture is from the December date and it was 20 grams gained the first month and has been increasing since then.

What do you feed? I have always noticed mazuri puts size on them faster then if it's not fed.
I really wouldn't worry about it. S/he might just going to be a larger tort then one growing slower.

I can't answer your question. But it is just so refreshing to see a post about growth exceeding expectations. It seems your leopard is thriving.

I do feed Mazuri most days but i didn't get Mazuri till a couple months into having her/him and i have been slowing down since some one told me that. I have been ecstatic about the growth, but now that its picking up It just has me worried. She/hes 5 1/2 months and I am seeing some 1 year olds around his size. I know they all grow differently though.

Here she is as of today. That’s a 7 gram gain in 5 days and I soak her and make sure she poops before weighing.

Here is the actual weight/measurements that I kept track of she only had one period of time when she didn’t make progress and that was a period of 6 days when she was eating her substrate.
9-27-17: 31g: 1 month

10-26-17: 52g: 2 months
11-9-17: 69g: 2 months

11-12-17: 73g: 2 months
11-15-17: 79g: 3 months

11/18/2017: 78g: 3 months (took a big poop)
11/21/2017: 80g: 3 months

11/26/17: 84g: 3 months

12/1/17: 90g: 3 months

12/9/2017: 98g: 3 months

12/15/17: 98g: 4 months - had been eating eco earth substrate instead of food so substrate was switched back to repti soil to stop this habit. Should be seeing a difference in weight soon.
12/17/17: 104g: 4 months (after two big poops!!!

12/24/17: 112g: 3 inches: 4 months

1/1/18: 118g: 3 inches: 4 months

This looks like normal healthy growth to me. This is how they should be growing when they are started right. A gram a day is great for a new hatchling, and yes, it should accelerate as they gain size.

237 is middle of the road for an 8 month old. 500-600 would be what I'd consider "fast" growth for an 8 month old leopard.

My gulf coast box turtle is currently gaining 30 grams a month and hes a much smaller species. So I wouldn' think that is excessive.
