Leopold is a 1 year old (roughly) desert tortoise that relocated from the Imperial Valley (desert) to the SF Bay Area. Though I'm not certain, I have reason to believe the family (s)he was born to allowed him/her to hibernate the first winter. Well, now that the nights are getting a little cool in the Bay Area (s)he seems to want to go into early hibernation and will stay in the burrow for days on end. We finally took him/her out for a warm bath, there was lots of poop and then lots of hunger... Should I allow him/her to hibernate so early or try to delay it?
