So I ran into a beautiful example of this boa the other day at NARBC Arlington. I damn near bought it there and then, but my more rational side held steady. (If I had the habitat available, maybe it wouldn't have been so strong.)

I'm going to be on the lookout for one of these specimens, but they are obviously pretty rare in the U.S. (Tom Crutchfield is the only reputable seller I currently know of... and his are a bit pricy at $1,975 for a pair. And I'm looking for a single animal.)

Does anyone have any knowledge and/or experience with this species? Any info is appreciated.

I'm in love. :D

Do a Google images search... these guys are incredible. The one I was able to see in person holds up to the pictures, too.

Really fascinating snakes.

I talked to Tom Crutchfield today and asked a few questions about his available specimens. Once I get things setup, I think I'll probably pull the trigger.

I love Tom's history and know I can trust the "pedigree" of his animals, but you definitely pay for that assurance. Of course, with these snakes it doesn't look like there's a lot of other reputable options anyway.

I'll be sure to update you if/when I end up getting one.

So I finally pulled the trigger and my new Dominican Red Mountain Boa should arrive on Tuesday. I'll post some pictures here later this week.

(Coincidentally, the DRMB in the picture I posted months ago is actually the mother of my new addition.)

They are definitely beautiful animals. Yeah, there's a handful of folks getting into them, but Tom is pretty much the source for most. He is the one largely responsible for finding them and putting them on the map, so to speak.

Just wanted to give an update now that the new arrival (Vladimir) is here.

A few pictures of the new little guy. They're a little blurry, but I just handled him briefly to do a health check. I'm gonna let him settle in for a bit before further handling.

And the enclosure(s). Above is Ivan (my Jungle Carpet Python) and below is Vladimir. Conveniently their care requirements are very similar, although I'm thinking Vladimir will be a bit more humidity sensitive.

And a few pictures of Ivan, just because I feel like it... (The first one is Ivan the day I got him last summer.)
