Does this warrant a vet visit?

I was getting ready to bring in Jay today and I noticed something on her face. It looks like her lower beak has split and overgrown a little. Any advice? Or does she need to see a Vet? She's eating normally and acting fine..ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1400284703.195352.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1400284946.744591.jpg

Ouch. Maybe bit on a rock? You could probably clean it up with some betadine solution. Then watch closely for any sign of infection or change in behavior. Like going off feed or acting punky.

Total owie :( I didn't think of that, quite possible though. Will the broken piece fall off on its own?

That loose part needs to be taken off. If you think you can do it, go for it. But it's probably quite painful to the tortoise. She'll probably be off her food until the area desensitizes.

Good news! That chipped section came off on its own. :) AND Jay is eating on her own, so that is great :D I washed her wound out with betadine and she let me :) she is such a great tort

That's good to hear! Now just keep an eye on her to make sure the new growth comes in like it should or you may in the future need to do some trimming.
