Wow what a cool surprise! Surprises me still how Easterns can survive that harsh of cold up there..

It look like a male eastern box turtle with those red eyes.

Without a doubt, this is an eastern box turtle. Although the red eyes suggest male, I'd want to see the plastron, tail, and hind legs before committing to an opinion of its sex.

Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT release him into your grandparent's pool. Although he might survive for a bit, he is definitely a LAND turtle, not a *swimming* turtle!!
