Diatomaceous earth used for bug prevention in substrate?

They didn't have peat! Not in brick form, at least. They had bags of loose, soggy peat going for $11 per bag...I'll have to order online for the cheap bricks. I was looking forward to having more control over the texture of the peat and break it up chunky like Ken suggested. For the love of peat :(

The coco coir is in, as planned. Honestly, I hate it. After dumping the last expanded brick into the enclosure I slipped into some sort of existential crisis. It's a lot of work for someone that's used to just throwing in bags of cypress and falling asleep. Bean seems to like it, though.

No time for roly hunting yet, not sure if they're necessary now since coco doesn't mold (I think?). Not sure if they can even survive in coco, since I clean tort poop the second it hits the substrate and I don't feed him in his enclosure.
