Yeah
I have no idea where one is.
I gotta get back over to Walmart.
Once I buy a new one, I'm sure I'll find the others....

I have found that to be one of life's golden rules. Once something is lost, the absolute quickest, most efficient, and absolutely guaranteed ways to find it...is to go purchase a replacement. The lost item will be standing proudly in plain sight as soon as you return...

I have at least two.
But they're small, flat and my wife likes to "put things away"......Gawd only knows.

Today he drank a lot in his Carrot soak.
Then he ate one half of a mashed pea and one bite of cactus fed by hand.
I placed him in front of a pile of finely grated, chopped mushroom, cactus and romaine.
I haven't seen him eat on his own yet. But I haven't stood there and watched him for very long, either.

Here's some more puzzling photos.
Keep an open mind now.
This animal truly IS at least 16 months old.....
He has an umbilical scar and what looks like an egg tooth.
The egg tooth might just be part of his facial deformity.
Between the size, the scar and what looks like an egg tooth, I'd guess that someone was playing a game with me.
Yet the age is comfirmed.

This is the eye situation.
One side looks like the socket is sunken. Maybe covered by a scar. Missing.
The other side there is an eye slit. It is always wet. And the animal CAN see at least shadows. He does avoid obstacles and responds to movements in front of that eye.

What a fantastic thing to do Ed, it couldn't have found a better home!
if anyone can bring it back from the brink you can.
Good luck to you and the little tort.

Would dripping some saline solution over the eye help to wash it out do you think?

I suppose it wouldn't hurt.
I'm anticipating more vision and more eye opening with hydration.
That's my hope.
Theres a lot of old, dead skin stuck on his head.
Maybe when that comes off I'll have a better idea of the damage.

This morning on the soak it drank again for an extended period of time.
Then ate another tiny piece of a cherry and two chomps of Sukis favorite dog food with mashed peas in it. (It only looks like a hatchling)
After the soak, I placed it in a tote outside in the shade. It's about 100% humidity. And placed shaved Romaine and mushroom in front of it.
When he or she eats, takes bites, it always extends its head outward and to the right. Either because of poor vision or because of a neurological issue. But it DOES ACT LIKE ITS HUNGRY.
And that is very nice to see.
I'm going to keep newspaper as a substrate until I'm convinced that it wont ingest some Orchid bark by accident.
So a "proper" enclosure will be weeks or months away.

The extended directional reach is likely due to the vision....I took in a couple Redfoot some years back and when they arrived one was near blind...after about a year that same tort is a crazy eater and looks you right in the eyes and can clearly see you now...I believe it was victim to the other Redfoot who was super aggressive (bit off the toe tips with the nail and all) and that caused it to not eat, bask, soak and not move about....so poor nutrition and some trauma...they were also super pyramided, but they are beautiful just the same...your little one there is cute from what I can see.... :)

It would be good if you could get a more detailed history and have his age confirmed. I think no way could he be 16 months!
It's great what you are doing to help him. A worthwhile project!

If it were someone else. I'd say the same thing!
