I am confirming that these coil type UV lamps are bad news. I didn't realise until I read it on this forum, I was sold the bulb by a supposed expert.
I was wondering why my 2 redfoots were dehydrated all the time, as this is what I found for watery eyes. But increasing humidity did nothing, regular soaks did nothing.
I made a guard/diffuser for the UV lamp, using thick paper to cover the bottom of the lamp. A temporary fix until I can change the fitting. Almost over night, no more tears!
If it wasn't for this forum I would never have figured it out. Thanks! Luckily no damage appears to have been done, as they seem to have excellent eyesight. On the plus side they spend quite a bit less time in their hide and are more active too.
