So I’ve been in the process of converting my russian tort’s enclosure into a Closed Chamber Enc, and I’d like some tips and tricks as to what the best way to do such a thing is? Thanks, I’ll post pictures below. I’m not done, I need to cut it to size and add air holes as well as connect hinges to the two halves.

Yes, I’m using PlexiGlas, I’ve seen it on a lot of different designs so I’d guess it’s perfectly safe to use. (Most of the designs were on this forum :))

Your current addition of a plexiglass will only funnel the heat and humidity out through the smaller exposed gaps such as the raised sides from the piece of wood holding the lamp fixture up and that large open section on the right. This may improve things a bit but not nearly enough as a true closed chamber style enclosure would.

The top lid must be sealed with aluminum foil and heat resistant tape to prevent gaps and holes. Some examples from a fellow member @daniellenc in this forum:

Thank you, I’ve still got a while to go on improving. I’m going to remove the wood in favor of a skinnier bar or either pvc or rebar. As for the gap on the far right, that’s so it wouldn’t become a sauna in there. I have about 1.5 feet off to the left for me to work with, and I am also going to cut it to size like I said previously :)) Thanks again for the advice Minority2, you’ve been exceedingly helpful recently

Ok so the only thing I have against removing the gap to the right is air usage. How will Herb breathe if there’s no air holes? However, if there’s air holes, the heat will escape like you’ve said. It’s impossible to have both heat and fresh oxygen? Please help me with this I want Herb to survive this winter.

It won’t be sealed completely even if you cover the gap. Opening it to give fresh food and water, etc is enough to get the air circulating. The closed chambers suggested on the forum do not have any air holes added.
