I recently picked up my dream tortoise and I want to pick a really cool name. My girlfriend and I went through too many names but we both like NOVA or BLOOM.

My tortoise is a Burmese star tortoise hatchling.

How many like the name NOVA? "Nova" is a sudden brightening of a star.

and how many like BLOOM? "Bloom" is one or more flowers on a flowering plant
In the lower pic is her mother, notice the flower pattern on her carapace, looks like flowers in bloom :D

Thanks for your input.

BLOOM.
Then if she gets a mate eventually, you can name him 'Bud.' Hehe

I also like Bloom, it's unique and original.

I am half Dutch and in Holland it's spelled Bloem.

Anyone else like Bloom or Nova? photo (2).JPG

Can anyone think of something negative about calling her Bloom?
I do like it because her Mothers carapace pattern looks like flowers and hopefully she will also have flowers.

Well, I like bloom for a female, not for a male... Was it temp sexed or do you just guess "girl"?

In all honesty this is your tort and you should love the name! Regardless of what any of us think ;)

I had a friend (male) whose last name was Bloom, and girlfriend and all his friends always called him Bloom instead of by his first name. So I think Bloom could be female or male.

I was going to say bloom but after I saw pics Nova seems a better fit. Either way beautiful tort!

They are both good names. I was really torn as to which one to choose but I like Nova best.

Thank you everyone for your replies, I named her Nova last weekend. She has gained 10 grams in a week since I got her. I have a pic of her father and he is huge for a male Burmese star. In the pic he is the large male on the right with this group of adult males from the breeder.

She's going to be a big beauty.
