Okay, I mey a family at the feed store a few days ago and discovered they have a RT. They have kept him on cat litter for about 5 years now and swear it is the best substrate ever.
No dust, no smell, clumps the urine for more thorough spot cleaning daily, and the tort can still dig etc. which they can't do on paper towels....
They feed him twice [/align]a day in a separate enclosure so he doesn't ingest the litter.

What do you all think? I searched litter but came up with nothing...probably because it is bad?

i don't think that cat litter is the best substrate for their tort. they obviously have a routine that has been working for them but i don't think it would be the best for most tortoises.

Yes it is bad, especially the clumping kind. If the tortoise ingested even a small amount it would clump in the stomach and intestine, causing impaction.
I'm suprised it hasn't happened yet. I would never even think about trying it.
