Canister filter help

Hi! I'm gonna make a canister filter for my future turtle tank and I'm just wondering what is better, to have the pump inside the tank or inside the canister? Are there any DIY'ers here that have an opinion on it? Thanks!

I think out of water would be better

You definately want an outside canister, here look at truaqua.com. They have some pretty good canisters for the price.
