Can anyone tell me what type of weed this is, AND is it safe for leopard tortoises to eat it? It does have tiny spines on it but they got ahold of some and were eating it. 835BC188-64BE-446F-9068-6A91B16B0F8C.jpeg

It’s Bristly Ox-Tongue, you’ve already noticed it’s bristly! It’s a dandelion relative and safe to eat.

It should develop yellow flowers but not until it reaches a good size.

I think yours is likely catsear. Also a dandelion relative. Lays flat, as you say, and sends up single yellow flowers on a stalk, like dandelions do. The Ox-Tongue and sow thistles (another relative), have multiple flowers per stalk.

They’re all good!

Totally safe and good to feed. The tortoises don't care about the spines at all.
