I'm helping a friend identify her turtle/tortoise. He looks like a red foot to me. She is guessing that he is a box turtle. We're trying to find out the exact species. Any help is appreciated!

Its for sure a box turtle, and because of the black plastron I'm going with Eastern also. Terrapene carolina carolina

For sure a box turtle, because you can clearly see the hinge. Like the rest, I am going Eastern but we really need to see some clear shots.

Okay, thanks for all the help! I'll let her know and ask her for better pics.

Blurry shots and all, this a no brainer for me. Definitely Eastern Box. Maybe 5 or 6 years old?

Definitely an American Box turtle, that is very easy. My guess is a Three toed box turtle, only because Three toed Box turtles are my favorite.

I agree, Eastern Box Turtle (but I haven't really seen any with a plastron that dark before; I'm still a relative newbie, too, though!)
