He is full grown and around ~14 years old and I want confirmation on what species he is.

Can we see the underside please? It sort of looks like a hingeback, but I can't see the rear end to see if there's a hinge. I'll send an alert to some of our more experienced members: @Kapidolo Farms @Sterant @zovick

@Markw84 , @Yvonne G

It is a bit hard to tell in these photos, but it appears that this tortoise HAS a nuchal scute, which rules out Travancore Tortoises. Additionally, the head shape and the leg scalation do not appear to be the same as what I have seen in the Travancore Tortoises I have owned (roughly 15 or more of them over the years). For comparison, here are a few pix of pure Indotestudo travancorica (DNA tested by Dr. Ed Louis from the Omaha Zoo).

In this case, I am in agreement with Yvonne. I believe it looks more like a hingeback than anything else.

@cristal09 More pictures of the tortoise in question would be very helpful in making a more definitive identification. Try to get both the underside and the top of the shell again without the grass obscuring the shell borders. It would also be good to know how big your tortoise is. IE, how long it is. You could place a ruler next to the tortoise to show scale.

Agree totally with you, Bill. I missed the nuchal scute as the right edge of it is hard to see and looked to me like no nuchal.

More pictures. Must be a hingeback. A good picture from the side will verify - should have a "hinge" in the carapace marginals and into costal above and just front of the region of the hind legs.

Here are some clearer photos...I've been giving him a russian tortoise diet this whole time, he's also quite aggresive(which I don't mind), what should I change? He's been living his days out in a large outdoor enclosure for the last 3 months, seems quite happy and active.

Yea!! I was right!!! (not to brag or anything) It's a hingeback. It's a very good looking tortoise. Someone (you??) has done a VERY good job taking care of it.

I know nothing about taking care of hingebscks, or even which subspecies it is, so I'll leave that for others to help you with.

(and he's male)

Nice job raising the tortoise. He is very possibly a Speke's Hingeback,, although I know most about the forest hingebacks and am not a true expert on the other hingeback species.
