How prone to biting are Hermann’s?

I thought I’d hand feed a leaf to my 3 year old Hermann, which hasn’t been a problem the last few weeks we’ve had him (I don’t do it often, once every now and then) but this time he totally ignored the food and tried to bite me. He did it a few times (I videoed one of them).

I left the leaf and stepped away so as not to annoy him. He promptly walked to his feeding slate, stretch out and scratched his back legs on the slate and had a massive wee!!! Probably unrelated to the biting but I’ve not seen him wee before, so that was interesting!

He also seems to love chicory and it’s almost like a drug from what I see. He goes mad eating it, usually ignoring any other garden plants or greens, and then can be fairly active after.

Anyway, other than “don’t feed him by hand”, are there any comments or suggestions regarding the behaviour?

Couldn’t upload video so two screenshots instead... one of him ignoring the food and one going in for the kill!
