Hey everyone! I have two hatchling tortoises one hermanns and one red greek. I was wondering what the best substrate for them is? I have some sort of mulch I can't remember exactly what it is, I got it from petsmart. If anyone can help me out, I'm up for all suggestions ImageUploadedByTortForum1373556255.189550.jpg

This is the substrate ive been using!

coco coir or top soil would be great! organic top soil can be found in pretty much any hard ware stores, but make sure it has no pesticide or chemical added to it. good luck!

I don't suggest it, because your tortoise might eat some of that stuff. You should look at this thread before making a decision, http://www.tortoiseforum.org/thread-6809.html

edit- on a second look it is coco coir, so yes you should use it. for some reason i didnt' see the label lol

That is coco coir in bag form or you can get it smashed in a brick shape also at most pet stores. It works well for hatchlings, I use it now. You need to keep it moist though or it gets really dusty. So plan on spraying it with water several times a day, or wetting it really well each morning.
