Hey all. I just ordered a 4'x4' nightbox from BCFab on Etsy. They look AMAZING! Has anyone ever purchased one before? Just curious. I should get it by Mid August. Well before the weather cools
Wow. This is impressive. Far batter than using a dog house or plastic shed. I see one problem, and maybe since each one is a custom job, this can be addressed: There is no insulation. On those 30 degree winter Modesto nights, you tortoise will not stay warm enough with out the floor, walls and ceiling all being thoroughly well insulated.Hey all. Seller has both insulated and uninsulated homes, as well as power sockets for heat lamps.Wow. This is impressive. Far batter than using a dog house or plastic shed. With some tweaking, this can be a great resource for people who can't or don't want to build their own tortoise house.
Have you given any thought to how you want to heat it? Here are two ideas:
Single Tortoise Night Box
I like my larger tortoises to live outside full time. My climate permits this year round with a little help. For people who live where it snows all winter, this type of box is still good for warmer weather, getting them out earlier in Spring, and keeping them out a bit later into fall. You'll...tortoiseforum.orgDouble Door Night Box
As the years have gone by and I build more of these boxes, I learn more and more each time. This one is the latest and I incorporated everything I've learned over the years. I also tried to take lots of pics so I can explain in more detail some of what is going on. It will take multiple posts to...tortoiseforum.org

I looked at a few, it looks like theres a bubble cover fairly low on some of them (looks like theres a male plug end there so maybe where the house plugs in for power). It might be okay for smaller tortoises, but I don't think it would last with a sulcata or other large tortoise, it'd have to be blocked from the animal.
If the tortoise sleeping in their box is larger than about 12 inches, I would not use a CHE. It won't be warm enough to heat up the whole thing, and it will slow-burn the top of the carapace. Because it will be over all too cold in the box, the tortoise will sit right under the CHE for hours trying to warm up, and this will make it worse. CHEs don't work well for larger tortoises.I purchased an insulated unit and plan on using CHE. There is also a thermostat attached.

I am looking at the picture showing the light socket and it looks too low????Seller has both insulated and uninsulated homes, as well as power sockets for heat lamps.
