A bit of a sad update on Peggy. She’s has gone a bit downhill and still isn’t eating anything by herself. We think that there could be something going on internally we’re going to give her another chance to improve and hope things get better.
Please .... keep her warm and do soaks and cuddles and kisses!! I will be praying for her!! She is a fighter.. have faith.. she turned around the last time remember??
chin up.. and let’s all say a prayer for her and you....???????????????????????????????????????

try to soak her in a little pedialite??? It gives her electrolytes.. get the “unflavored pedialite “ in the kids isle at the grocery store... try that??

I'm sorry to hear that. If there is something internal that hasn't formed correctly, there isn't much you can do beyond what you're doing now. You're putting in as much effort as you can. Now it's up to Peggy to take what she has and see if it's enough. She'll have to fight for her own life though. Some fight harder than others.

Update! So we had Peggy booked in to be out to sleep today as she hasn’t been responsive for The past few days. We decided to bring her into the garden in an area to just give her a chance to see the outfit world. Since then she has been moving around non stop and has perked up again. Vet appointment cancelled!!

I can only imagine how stressful this must be for you guys! I went through a few weeks where my hatchling kept looking like she was going to die on me at any minute and it was awful. She pulled through though and she’s cruising now.

Peggy’s clearly a fighter and she’s lucky to have you guys around her.

I’m so glad to hear she’s perked up again. The care and compassion you’re showing Peggy just warms my heart. It’s so sweet that you were thoughtful enough to want to show her the outside world and thank goodness it was what she needed to liven her up. I hope she stays on this path. Your wee one sure is a fighter and has a strong will to live.

The yolk sac looks a little funky. I'm not sure if it absorbed improperly which may be causing the weird rounded shell but i am a bit concerned. Even if you do fix him i'm not sure of the quality of life he will have. He does look a little swollen to me but maybe that's just the picture, has he eaten anything at all?

Is this the Tortoise your giving antibiotic injections? If so I would stop immediately. I hate to say it but that's probably what's harming this tortoise.

@leah_huggs1409 How is little Peggy doing? Hope all is well.
She is doing well and loving the outside when we take her out. I think she just prefers to be outside. We are sure that she is blind and have been hand feeding her, which is working out perfect. Hopefully soon she’ll know what her food smells and tastes like so she can eat it by herself.

Yes she has eaten twice a day since we started hand feeding her. I think the reason she looks swollen is because her eyes are so tiny and we are certain that she cannot see.

We are seeing a reptile specialist. May I ask why you think they may be harming her?
Because there's most likely nothing that even a reptile specialist can do for a tortoise this small. And because I've had a reptile specialist kill one of my turtles with antibiotic injections. It's the first thing most VETS defer to when someone comes in with a sick turtle/tortoise usually without without any tests to diagnos the actual problem. If this VET didn't tell you what tests were performed and what was found to determine the Tortoise needed antibiotics (which I doubt) then I definitely wouldn't give them.

Ok thank you that’s really interesting don’t know what to do now as she has 3 appointments left.

Thank you for the update. I’m glad to hear she is still hanging in there. It’s a great sign that she’s eating and I’m sure it won’t be long until she will be feeding herself. Little Peggy is lucky to have you taking such good care of her. Has she been gaining much weight?

Yeah she is gaining just as much weight as the others. It’s lovely to see that she is doing well we were so worried that she wasn’t happy but she has gotten so much better :)
